The Bigfoot Chronicles

No, nothing about Bigfoot.  Just a great eye catching title.  :P   Gotcha.

I’m really proud of my sticking to the dietary plan I decided on.   I never thought I could have this kind of control over my eating.  I’ve been sticking to my routine and it’s slowly getting easier and easier.

The problem is exercise.  My legs hurt so darn bad.  I don’t know what to do.  I’m going to try and see the doctor but walking is exacerbating the problem with my legs.   Not even shirtless rugby players can overcome this pain.

I can’t take pain killers.   Don’t even want them to be truthful.  Most over the counter pain relievers tear up my stomach and the pain can be as bad as my legs.    The swelling is starting to get out of control again and I don’t want to go back on the Methotrexate.

Anyone have any suggestions?    I’m all ears.

    Swimming?

At the gym I saw a machine that works your heart rate up only you have to use your arms instead of legs. I will find it on the net and send you a link.

I would def suggest swimming as well, but if you are looking for an exercise with a little more clothing, I would check out a stationary bike. When my dad had knee surgery I remember the doctor telling us that cycling (on one of those sit back bikes, not the kind where you are right over your legs) takes a lot of pressure off the legs and you still can burn calories. Works your abs (if you suck it in!) and your hips i think, but dont quote me on that. Hope that helps!

How about just working with weights for right now. Like just sitting and lifting weights. Or maybe like the stationary bike or the elleptical machines? I hope you find a solution to that part. Way to go in keeping your eating in check. I think that can sometimes be the hardest thing to do. Maybe as the weight drops your legs won’t hurt so much. Good luck with finding some solutions.

Sam, I am on my way to exercise class in a few mins. I am w/c bound and only do the upper body and walking in place from my chair. It lasts 60 mins. and I am sweating like crazy by the end. I use strong elastic cods, 3# weights, and slooooow tai chi movements. I keep my weights in every room and get in small doses of lifting any time I can. Really helps with the B.S. and the B/P. I cannot do the weight bearing exercises because of PAIN…. from spinal cord injury, torn rotator cuff, and muscle pain from wheeling myself around. But you can find a way!! I am going to a pain center next week and will tell you if I find out anything new. I have been working with this for 29 years, just seems worse at present. Hang in there, Sam, and pray for a better day. Marge
